Karen Abu Zayd, UNRWA head reported that the UNRWA intends to construct 600 new houses for Palestinian refugees in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Abu Zayd stated that the organization will increase its construction budget by 400 million USD and will receive an additional sum of 100 million USD in emergency funding.

The UNRWA will sign an agreement with the United Arab Emirates regarding financing this project.

Also, Abu Zayd added that the UNRWA will continue to conduct its duties in the Palestinian territories until a permanent solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is reached.

Recently the UNRWA, which was established by the UN in 1950 to provide services for the Palestinian refugees who were displaced by Israel, discussed the issue of ending its services or reducing them in the Gaza Strip.
