Official sources at the Hebron Reconstruction Committee reported on Tuesday that Israeli soldiers broke into dozens of shops and stores in the Old City of Hebron, and damaged awnings and doors of several shops, the Palestinenet news agency reported on their website.

The Committee reported that on Monday evening, soldiers broke into Khan Shaheen Market, known as the “Fish Market” destroyed the awnings and doors of several shops, and placed several concrete blocks and iron bridges  in the area.

An Israeli military source reported that the army wants to install a ceiling to the ancient market following an order issued by Ya’er Neveh, Chief Commander of the Israel Army in the occupied West Bank.

The Committee, centered in the Old City, said that this attack is part of the continuous Israeli attempts to empty the old market area and the Old City of Hebron from its Palestinian residents, and called on the residents to maintain and increase their presence there.
