Palestinian medical sources reported Tuesday that a 19-year-old youth was killed when a tunnel collapsed on him in Al Salaam neighborhood, in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The youth was identified as Ahmad Mohammad Saqer, 19. He suffocated to death after being buried under the rubble.

Tunnel accidents are frequent due to Israeli strikes that weakens their foundations and due to technical errors.

The number of Palestinian workers killed in tunnel accidents since June of 2007 exceeds 144 with dozens of injuries.

Furthermore, the Palestinian Human Rights Foundation (PHRF) reported Friday that since the beginning of this year, 52 Palestinian residents were killed in border tunnels after the Egyptian Authorities gassed the tunnels while the residents were in them.
