Israeli TV, Channel 2, reported on Tuesday at night that an Australian man from a Saudi descent was arrested at the Ben Gurion Airport on suspicions that intended to spy on Israel on behalf of the Hamas movement. Channel 2 said that charges were filed against Eyad Abu Arja at the Petah Tikva Central Court.

The Israeli prosecution claims that Abu Arja was instructed by Hamas to take pictures of several locations in Israel, and to try to obtain equipment used for coding, filming and directing missiles.

The prosecution also said that Abu Arja tried to contact Israeli trade companies.

He is believed to have met Hamas members in Syria, and also believed to have been part of a training course on using firearms.
