Israeli sources reported Wednesday that at least two mortar shells have been fired into the occupied Golan Heights, and detonated in the Jabal Al-Sheik, leading to no damages or injuries. The sources said that “an initial investigation into the incident revealed that two mortars have been fired from Syria into Mt. Hermon (Jabal Al-Sheik) in the Golan Heights”.

The sources said that it appears that “the shells were accidentally fired into the Golan during gun battles between the Syrian army, and armed militias in Syria.”

Israel did not report any casualties or damage resulting from the shells fired into the area, but the Israel army decided to close the mountain area, and to prevent tourists from entering it.

Israel said it filed a complaint to the “United Nations Peacekeeping Forces” in the Golan Heights.
