The Israeli army has evicted 35 Palestinian families from their homes in the northern Jordan. The families reside in the areas of al-Burj, al-Mayteh and al-Hammamat.The Israeli press reported, on Wednesday, that the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has stopped providing tents for Palestinian residents in the Jordan Valley whose houses were demolished by Israeli forces. According to the website, the decision came after Israeli forces also tore down tents provided by the organization and prevented it from taking the tents into local villages as part of its humanitarian work.
The report was not confirmed by the ICRC. According to the organization’s 2012 report, in the Jordan Valley there are 249 families (some 1,400 people) in a particularly vulnerable situation who received one-off food rations.
According to the data of the United Nations Coordination Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), of the 286 demolitions that occurred in 2013, after the beginning of the current round in the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, 171 occurred in the Jordan Valley, accounting for 60 percent of demolitions during the peace process. Accordingly, 196 people were displaced, accounting to 43 percent of displacement during the peace process.
