United Nations’ Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace, Nickolay Mladenov, called on Thursday for helping the Palestinian Authority fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19).

In a new statement, reported by local media outlets, Mladenov urged key international donor countries to promptly aid the Palestinian Authority, voicing concerns amidst the rapid spread of Coronavirus, across the occupied Palestinian territories.

Mladenov suggested that Palestinian Authority’s resources are beyond its capacity to deal with the pandemic, that has so far slowly spreading through the occupied West Bank and blockaded Gaza Strip.

Commenting on Palestinian government’s efforts to fight back COVID-19, the UN’s official praised Prime Minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh for his fast and effective precautionary measures.

It is worth mentioning that the United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres, warned this week that the world faces the most severe global crisis since the creation of United Nations in 1945. Guterres appealed to countries around the world, to work together to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
