US Administration has recently refused to renew the licence of PLOâs office in Washington unless it stops prosecuting Israel before international courts and starts unconditional peace talks.
According to Days of Palestine, Palestinian newspaper Al-Resalah described this as a form of extortion of the Palestinian Authority in order for them to accept Donald Trumpâs âdeal of the centuryâ through which the US is seeking to end the longest conflict in the Middle East.
A report in the Times in London said that the US is currently laying out a final plan to impose permanent “peace” on the Palestinians and Israel in the wake of the Saudi-led change in Arab-Israel relations.
The PLO office in the US capital was opened in 1994 to represent the Palestinians. The Palestinian Authority does not have an embassy or consulate in the US because America does not recognise the state of Palestine.
Palestinian political analyst Talal Okal said that this âextortionâ comes in the light of the US preparation for the âdeal of the centuryâ and it aims to pressure the Palestinians to accept the deal âwithout political or diplomatic conditions.â
According to Palestinian writer Akram Atallah, the US measure regarding the PLO office is a âcrazy idea,â as the facility was only a âtiny bribeâ offered by the US to the Palestinian political regime to persuade it that it âremains a neutral mediatorâ in the reconciliation with Israel.
âLike the American measure itself,â he added, âthe PA response was naĂŻve because it considered the US administration a neutral peace mediator.â
