A high-level European Parliament delegation started today a six-day visit to Palestine.
The delegation, headed by Mr Kyriacos Triantaphyllides (Cyprus), would discuss the relaunching of the Arab League initiative that have raised hopes for a breakthrough and progress towards a solution of the Palestinian problem, the European Commission office in Jerusalem stated.A high-level European Parliament delegation started today a six-day visit to Palestine.

The delegation, headed by Mr Kyriacos Triantaphyllides (Cyprus), would discuss the relaunching of the Arab League initiative that have raised hopes for a breakthrough and progress towards a solution of the Palestinian problem, the European Commission office in Jerusalem stated.

During the visit, would end on May 4, the delegation will discuss this and various aspects of the problem with high-level representatives of the Palestinian Legislative Council and the Palestinian Government.

The members of the delegation will reiterate the position that the killing of and attacks on civilians is only increasing tensions and is jeopardizing prospects for solution.

It will echo the various appeals for the release of BBC journalist Alan Johnston. The delegation will have the opportunity to receive direct information and see on the ground the very serious humanitarian situation experienced by the Palestinian people.

The delegation composed as follows: Mr Proinsias DE ROSSA, Vice-Chair of the Delegation (Ireland), Mr John BOWIS (United Kingdom), Mrs Frederika BREPOELS (Belgium), Mr Chris DAVIES (United Kingdom), Mrs Caroline LUCAS (United Kingdom), Mrs Jamila MADEIRA (Portugal), Mrs Luisa MORGANTINI, EP Vice-President (Italy), Mr Hannes SWOBODA (Austria), Mr Georgios TOUSSAS (Greece), Mr Johannes VOGGENHUBER (Austria), and Mrs Rodi KRATSA, EP Vice-President and rapporteur for the MEDA Programme for the Committee on Budgetary Control (Greece).
