Four Palestinians were injured in Nablus on Monday evening when Palestinian security personnel stopped a car for inspection.
Local sources said that a fierce gun battle broke out after gunmen, riding in a local car, opened fire at a police force while the latter was inspecting the car. The sources added that the police learned that the car was a stolen one and, the car’s passengers traded fire with them.
The police started routinely inspecting cars after a Palestinian policeman was shot and wounded yesterday in the Rafidya neighborhood of Nablus. Shops in downtown Nablus were reportedly closed immediately after the incident.
Palestinian security officials had earlier emphasized the need to enforce law and order throughout the city and other Palestinian areas, in a bid to contain further internal violence.
