Unknown gunmen fired randomly near residents' homes in Jabalia town in the northern part of the Gaza strip Friday. One of their stray rounds hit and injured a seven month old baby on Friday afternoon.
The baby, Shahid Isma'el, was critically wounded and was moved to a nearby hospital for treatment, medical sources in the Gaza strip reported.
The Gaza Strip has been severely hit by internal violence over the past few several months, in which some hundred people were killed and hundreds others wounded. Interior ministry has recently launched a security plan to contain underway violence.
The Gaza based Independent Committee for Citizens Rights issued a report this week stating that 48 Palestinian civilians have been killed due to civil unrest in the last month.
The report also stated that the Gaza strip and the West Bank have witnessed an increase of internal unrest from last year.
