Israeli soldiers and members of the Border Guards Units broke on Thursday into the main headquarters of the Popular (Folk) Resistance Committees in Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, and attacked the employees and volunteers. Azmi Shiokhy, secretary-general of the Committees, stated that soldiers sabotaged the properties of the center while searching it, and tore apart pictures of the late Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat.
Prior to attacking the center, soldiers fired concussion grenades, gas bombs and rubber-coated bullets at the center which is located in the center of Hebron; one resident was injured.
The injured resident was identified as Fuad Amro, the personal advisor of Shiokhy. He suffocated after inhaling gas fired by the army and was moved to a local hospital, Shiokhy stated.
Shiokhy added that this attack is part of ongoing Israeli military assaults against the Palestinian people and their institutions, and stated that Israel is ongoing with its violations against public freedoms and the civilians, adding that these attacks come in direct violation to the international law and the basic principles of human rights.
He added that the Palestinian people will not stand idle while the army continues its crimes and ongoing attacks against the social and economical aspects of the Palestinian society.
Shiokhy also said that Israel is acting in order to void any achievement or progress in the Peace Process especially after the peace summits in Annapolis and Paris.
Over the past few days, the Israeli army killed at least 28 residents, including children and family members, and injured at least 60 residents, 12 seriously.
In its weekly report published on Thursday, the Palestinian Center For Human Rights (PCHR), based in Gaza, stated that 26 Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip, and one in the West Bank.
Eight of the slain residents were civilians; among them were two brothers, one child and an elderly man. 17 more residents were killed during an Israeli invasion into an area east of Gaza City, seven residents were assassinated.
