Detainee Abboud Mahmoud Samaro, from Nablus, appealed to humanitarian organizations and the Red Cross to intervene with Israeli authorities to seek his release so he can receive medical treatment abroad.
Samaro is suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease, in addition to dental problems that are causing him to gradually lose his teeth.
Samaro need three insulin injections daily in order to control the sugar level in his blood.
In a phone interview with Al-Quds newspaper, Samaro said that he is receiving only painkilling pills in detention, and that he recently lost consciousness several times.ÂÂ
In spite of his poor health, Israeli prison authorities extended his administrative detention period for the fourth time. Samaro was arrested 18 months ago, and placed in administrative detention without charges.ÂÂ
Recently, an Israeli military court ejected an appeal to release Samaro in order to be hospitalized and receive the needed medical care and attention.
The court claimed that the Israeli security submitted a “secret file,†which even Samaro’s lawyer can’t view, claiming that Samaro is one of the prominent Hamas leaders in Nablus area and poses a threat to the Israeli security.
It is worth mentioning that Samaro was arrested for the first time in 1985 and spent fourteen months in detention.
