The Palestinian Detainees’ Committee has confirmed that fifty political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention camps are continuing the hunger strike after twenty detainees joined the strike Sunday, protesting their arbitrary Administrative Detention without charges or trial, and more will likely join soon.
The Committee said thirty detainees started the hunger strike six days earlier before twenty more joined the strike Sunday, in addition to continuing the boycott of Israeli military courts and their mock trials.
The Committees’ Spokesperson Hasan Abed-Rabbo told the WAFA News Agency that the thirty detainees are already showing signs of fatigue, weight loss, joint and abdominal pain, and deficiency in vitamins and minerals and are determined to continue the hunger strike.
One of the detainees, Jihad Shreiteh, suffered serious complications and started vomiting blood before he was moved to the Ofer prison clinic.
Abed-Rabbo stated that the twenty detainees joined the strike a day earlier, adding that ten are in the Negev detention camp and ten in Ofer prison, including five held under arbitrary Administrative Detention orders.
It is worth mentioning that the Israeli occupation authorities issued more than 9500 Administrative Detention orders since 2015, including about 1650 orders this year alone, among them 272 orders in August of this year, 2022.
