Fateh and Hamas movements in the Gaza Strip organized a massive joint march welcoming the unity government deal signed in Saudi Arabia between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas from Fateh, and Hamas political bureau chief, Khalid Mashal.The march took off from Al Maghazi refugee camp as thousands of residents marched in support of the deal and calling for unity among all Palestinian factions.
The residents flocked to the street directly after the agreement was signed.
Fateh media spokesperson in the central Gaza Strip, Ashraf Al Ghafari, said that the Mecca deal comes to strengthen the Palestinian national unity ‘which is the strongest weapon that the Palestinian have in resisting the Israeli occupation’.
Al Ghafari added that this agreement is the first step towards the liberation of Jerusalem, and the establishment of a Palestinian independent state.
Thousands of residents and supporters of several factions also marched in Gaza City welcoming the agreement.
The residents carried Palestinian flags and set off fire crackers in the air.
The Hamas movement also welcomed the agreement and considered it an important national achievement.
The movement said that this agreement will lead to national reconciliation, especially between Hamas and Fateh, in order to be united against the Israeli occupation.
Abbas, member of the Central Committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine said that this agreement is a positive achievement that will lead to further talks with all national and Islamic factions.
He added that the agreement will preserve the political partnership between the factions.
Several Palestinian factions said that the days of internal clashes and killing harmed the Palestinian people and their interests, and said that the Palestinians are awaiting the full implementation of the agreement.
Palestinian detainees imprisoned by Israel welcomed the agreement and considered it an important achievement towards unity and partnership.
Several Palestinian resistance groups, including the Al Aqsa brigades, the armed wing of Fateh, the Al Qassam brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and the Popular Resistance Committees, also welcomed the agreement of national unity.
