Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, issued a statement warning that the Palestinian hospitals in the southern part of the Gaza Strip will run out of fuel for their power generators in three days.
Ghebreyesus stated that the hospitals would have to shut down after they consume the remaining fuel, used to keep their electricity generators running.
On his X account, Ghebreyesus stated “One of the three hospitals in Rafah, Al-Najjar, is no longer functioning due to the ongoing hostilities in its vicinity and the military operation in Rafah,”
He added that Israel’s closure of the border crossing, especially after the army destroyed and occupied the Rafah Border Terminal with Egypt, is preventing the United Nations from bringing the needed fuel into Gaza.
“Without fuel, all humanitarian operations will stop. Border closures are also impeding the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza,” Ghebreyesus added.
“At a time when fragile humanitarian operations urgently require expansion, the Rafah military operation is further limiting our ability to reach thousands of people who have been living in dire conditions without adequate food, sanitation, health services and security. This must stop now,” he concluded.
