RAMALLAH, Monday, May 13, 2024 (WAFA) – The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs warned today that female Palestinian detainees incarcerated in Israel’s Damon Prison are held in total isolation from the outside world and suffering imposed on them by the Israeli Prison Service (IPS), which practices all forms of torture and abuse against them.

Following a visit by the Commission’s lawyer who managed to meet with a group of detainees, the Commission revealed a series of measures implemented by the IPS against them, including the daily suffering and ill-treatment and the extremely difficult living conditions they face inside the Damon jail.

These measures include the confiscation of televisions and radios from the cells and the acute lack of essential needs and other life-sustaining supplies amounting to a complete denial of rights, which heavily affects their overall psychosocial well-being.

Also among the unbridled measures taken by the IPS against female detainees is limiting their usual daily break to only 40 to 60 minutes and banning their access to pens, pencils, paper and books.

The Commission cited the case of one female detainee, who was identified by her initials H.S. The detainee was subjected to severe abuse and ill-treatment during and after her detention.

She was detained in a brutal manner from inside her home, causing a state of panic and fear among her family members and children.

Forces handcuffed and blindfolded the detainee during her detention and forced her into a military jeep, where she was subjected to serious verbal insults and severe beating.

She was later kept for two hours in an empty, dirty, and foul-smelling cell until she was transferred to the Damon prison, where she was subjected to harsh interrogations for about an hour before being taken to one of the prison’s sections.

The Commission noted that the general situation of all the detainees is difficult and extremely worrisome, renewing its appeal to all international institutions and organizations to save them and not leave them prey to such reprisals that are escalating by the day.
