The Israeli army took prisoner today two members of the Islamic Jihad group in the northern West Bank towns of Ateel and Allar. Media sources identified the detainees as Nezae Taqatqa, 22 and Wajdi Abu Khalil, 23.
The sources also quoted eyewitnesses as saying that the Israeli soldiers stormed the detainees’ houses, before they took them to unknown destinations. The Israeli army has been waging non-stop arrest campaigns across the West Bank under the pretext of cracking down on ‘wanted Palestinians’.
Israel has imposed a tight grip of military control over the West Bank since the Israeli-Arab war in June 1967, constructing settlements and a separation barrier, all described as illegal by international law.
