A Palestinian man was killed, and several others were injured on Wednesday when Israeli warplanes bombed an area in central Gaza, the Civil Defense and medical sources in the besieged Strip confirmed.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, said one Palestinian was killed and several others were wounded after Israeli warplanes fired missiles at agricultural land south of Deir al‑Balah in central Gaza.

The Israeli strike targeted an area south of Deir al‑Balah, killing 22‑year‑old Abdul‑Rahman Qanbour and injuring seven others.

Medical sources at the Al‑Aqsa Hospital confirmed receiving Qanbour’s body along with seven wounded Palestinians.

Al-Jazeera reported that Suhaila Khalil, 57, a displaced woman from northern Gaza now living in a tent west of Deir al‑Balah, said she heard people shouting warnings that the area would be bombed, Al-Jazeera reported.

“I rushed outside calling for my children. There was a small warning explosion, then a massive blast,” she said. “The strike was a few hundred meters from our tent, but smoke and shrapnel spread over the displaced families, and several people were injured.”

Earlier in the day, the Civil Defense reported that Israeli naval vessels opened fire toward tents sheltering displaced families along the Al‑Mawasi coastline west of Khan Younis, injuring several Palestinians.

The Al‑Mawasi field hospital said it received four wounded Palestinians, including three children—one of whom suffered critical injuries—along with one man.

Medical sources at the field hospital stated the injuries resulted from Israeli naval fire targeting the tents of displaced civilians.

Hazem Qassem, spokesperson for the Hamas movement, said the renewed attacks and tightened siege reflect “a clear decision by the occupation to sabotage ceasefire efforts and undermine international mediation.”

Since the declared “ceasefire” on 11 October of last year, 687 Palestinians have been killed, and at least 1,849 have been injured, in addition to 756 recovered under rubble across the coastal enclave.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported Sunday that 72,264 Palestinians have been killed and 171,959 injured since October 7, 2023. The United Nations has described the casualty figures as credible and consistent with its own assessments.
