There are more than 500.000 Israeli settlers living in different settlements and outposts in different parts of the occupied West Bank, including in an around East Jerusalem.
Around 500 settlers live in the center of the Old City of Hebron, an issue that causes frequent confrontations. Settlers also illegally occupied several Palestinian homes after kicking the Palestinians out.
Israeli settlements in the occupied territories violate International Law, and the Fourth Geneva Convention to which Israel is a signatory.
Settlements are amongst the main obstacles to peace as they, along with the Annexation Wall, isolate vast areas of Palestinian lands and orchards, in addition to the fact that most settlements are built on private Palestinian property.
