Fatah-ffiliated prisoners from the West bank city of Qalqylia called Fatah’s city committee to resign over poor show up in local elections in which Hamas won the 15 council seats.
The prisoners issued a statement on Friday harshly criticizing the local leadership for their poor performance, and asking them to take full responsibility and resign.
Fatah sources said on Friday that the movement leadership in Qalqylia is considering resignation, adding that few individuals had already submitted resignation.
Also, in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, Fatah’s leadership submitted resignation over election results in which Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) won the majority of the council seats.
Local sources close to Fatah and PFLP told IMEMC that both sides are negotiating an agreement on by which PFLP would support the nomination of Fatah elected council member for Mayor in exchange to Fatah support for a PFLP mayors in Beit Sahour and Beit Jala.
