Palestinian Interior Ministry announced Friday night that security forces has arrested 9 militants, suspected to have taken part in the attack on a police station in the West Bank city of Jenin in which a policeman was killed.
The ministry warned that anyone who takes law in hand will be held accounted, vowing harsh measures against the ones proven to have been involved in the attack at the Jenin’ police station.
Also, the ministry is propping into the burning of Palestinian legislator Jamal Shati’ car, which was torched immediately after the attack on the Police station in Jenin.    ÂÂ
Gun battles erupted Friday as Palestinian Authority security forces swept through the West Bank city of Jenin, hunting for militants who killed an officer in an attack on a police station Thursday.
Dozens of police in jeeps cordoned of a northern part of the town, exchanging shots with the gunmen before arresting one of them, police said.
There were no reports of injuries.
Gunman kills Palestinian Policeman in Jenin
A Palestinian police officer was killed by an al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades member in the West Bank city of Jenin. The brigades denied any connection to the incident, saying it was a personal matter.
Senior Palestinian security officials convened Thursday a meeting in Jenin in order to discuss the incident.
The incident took place after Sa’ad Amin, a Brigades member, was detained Thursday following engaging in an argument with a local police officer. Amin was taken in for questioning and subsequently released.
In the evening, Amin returned to the police station where he was held and opened fire at a group of policemen and burned a police vehicle.ÂÂ
One police officer was killed in the attack and another one sustained moderate to serious injuries.
