More than 100 international humanitarian organizations called on governments around the world to take immediate action to open all land crossings with the Gaza Strip, restore the full flow of food, clean water, medical supplies, shelter and fuel through a UN-led initial mechanism, end the blockade, and agree to an immediate ceasefire. This comes exactly two months after the start of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s plan , which is under the control of the Israeli government.
In a joint statement issued Wednesday, the humanitarian organizations said that aid workers themselves are now standing in food lines, risking gunfire, just to feed their families, while the Israeli government’s blockade continues to starve Gaza’s population.
These organizations are witnessing the deteriorating health of their colleagues and partners as supplies run out completely.
“The question that is repeated every morning in Gaza is: Will I be able to eat today? ” says one agency representative .
In its statement, it noted that massacres at food distribution sites in Gaza have become almost daily. According to the United Nations, as of July 13, “875 Palestinians were killed while searching for food, including 201 people on aid routes and the rest at distribution points, and thousands were injured.”
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have forcibly displaced nearly 2 million exhausted Palestinians, with the last mass evacuation order issued on July 20, confining the population to less than 12% of Gaza’s area.
The World Food Programme has warned that current conditions make operations unsustainable. The use of starvation as a weapon of war against civilians is a war crime .
These organizations say that tons of food, clean water, medical supplies, shelter materials, and fuel are piling up in warehouses outside and inside Gaza without being distributed, as they are prevented from reaching or delivering them.
The statement stressed that the restrictions, delays, and fragmentation imposed by the Israeli government as part of its complete blockade have created chaos, hunger, and death.
An aid worker providing psychological support spoke of the devastating impact on children: “Children tell their parents they want to go to heaven, because at least heaven has food . ”
The statement adds: Doctors are reporting unprecedented rates of severe malnutrition, especially among children and the elderly. Diseases such as acute diarrhea are spreading. Markets are empty, garbage is piling up, and adults are collapsing in the streets from hunger and dehydration. An average of only 28 aid trucks enter Gaza daily, which is insufficient for more than two million people, many of whom have not received any aid for weeks .
It stressed that the UN-led humanitarian system has not failed, but has been prevented from functioning. Humanitarian agencies have the capacity and supplies to respond on a large scale, but we cannot reach those in need, including our exhausted and hungry teams, due to access denials.
The organizations continued in their statement: On July 10, Israel and the European Union announced steps to expand aid, but these promises of “progress” ring hollow in the absence of any real change on the ground. Every day that passes without a steady flow of aid means more deaths from preventable diseases, and children go hungry waiting for promises that never materialize.
The statement explained that Palestinians live in a cycle of hope and despair, waiting for aid and a ceasefire, only to wake up to worse conditions, not only physical but also psychological suffering. Survival looms like a distant mirage, and the humanitarian system cannot operate on the basis of false promises. Humanitarian workers cannot work to changing schedules or wait for political commitments that fail to provide access .
It emphasized the need for governments to stop waiting for permission to act. We cannot continue to hope that current arrangements will work. The time has come for decisive action: demanding an immediate and lasting ceasefire; lifting all bureaucratic and administrative restrictions; opening all land crossings; ensuring access to all parts of Gaza; rejecting military-controlled distribution models; restoring a principled UN-led humanitarian mechanism and continuing to fund neutral and principled humanitarian organizations. States must take concrete measures to end the blockade, such as halting the transfer of arms and ammunition .
It also noted that fragmented arrangements and symbolic gestures, such as airdrops or flawed aid deals, are merely a cover for inaction and cannot replace states’ legal and moral obligations to protect Palestinian civilians and ensure effective aid delivery. States can and must save lives before those who can be saved are gone .
