Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said on
Thursday that normalization of relations with Israel is every countries
own business.
The United Emirates based Al-Bayan newspaper quoted Abul Gheit as
saying, ‘If any Arab state believes that by normalizing its relations
with Israel it helps the Palestinians, it is its own business’
Normalization has to be based on the ‘Land for Peace’ slogan according
to the Arab Peace initiative, which means that an Israeli withdrawal is
pre-requisite for Arab readiness to normalize, said Abul Gheit.
Abul Gheit’s statements came after the Israeli proposed ‘new road map’
presented to Egypt by the Israeli Foreign Minster Silvan Shalom during
his visit to Cairo on Wednesday. Shalom suggested normalization
of relations between at least 7 Arab countries.
