Israeli Public Security Minister Tzachi Hanegbi said Saturday that he favors detaining Jewish extremists without charges or trial, to prevent possible attacks on Haram Alsharif in Jerusalem or on Israeli leaders.

Hanegbi recently warned that Jewish right wing extremists might attempt to damage second mosque in holiness to all Moslems.

As well, Security officials warned that Jewish extremists might target Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in an effort to sabotage his disengagement plan.

Hanegbi said that ordering administrative detention, which is widely used against Palestinians, was up to the defense ministry at the recommendation of the Shin Bet security service.

‘This is not within my authority, but I’m in favor,’ Hanegbi told Israel Radio.
