Saturday afternoon, an Israeli military source reported that Hezbollah fighters fired machine guns at Israeli military positions in the Sheba Farms area, on the Israeli-Lebanese borders.
According to the army radio, Hezbollah fighters opened fire at military positions after Israeli soldiers fired ‘warning shots’ at shepherds who unintentionally strayed across the borders.
No casualties were reported in the shooting.
According to the Israeli online daily Ynet news, the Israeli army northern command believes that the shepherd incident was a “deliberate provocation”.
Also, Ynet reported that military officials believe that the Hezbollah party will repeat such shooting incidents “in order to gain popularity” and boost its position in the lead up to the Lebanese elections.
