The Israeli army reported recently that such incidents are likely to re-occur in the coming period following the assassination of five Palestinians in Tulkarem, on Wednesday at night.

On Wednesday, August 24, a 21-year old Yeshiva student, identified as Shmuel Matt, was stabbed to death in Jerusalem, and his friend was seriously injured.

Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, slammed the Israeli military operation in Tulkarem, and accused Israel carrying out deliberate provocations to undermine the Palestinian efforts to maintain calm.

The US called on the Israelis and Palestinians to “show restraint”, and denounced what was described as “violence of both sides”.
