Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Dan Halutz, said on Tuesday that the army is using the targeted killings as a policy and not just a way to retaliate to operations and bombings carried by the Palestinian factions.
Halutz reported during a meeting with the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that targeted killings of Islamic Jihad member and fighters in the Gaza Strip will continue and as “action and not only as a reaction”.
Also, Halutz stated that the assassinations carried by the army against fighters, military and political leaders of the Palestinian factions, proved to be “effective”, disregarding the huge number of civilians killed and injured in each assassination carried out by the army.
Halutz claimed that the Israeli military intelligence received information that Palestinian resistance factions managed to smuggle 10 shoulder-missiles (SH-7) to the Gaza Strip over the last two years.
Responding to a question regarding “threats against civilian aircraft” Halutz said that these threats exist, but they are particularly present outside of the Israeli borders.
