A Palestinian source reported, on Saturday afternoon, that the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas [Abu Mazin], received an official invitation to visit the Vatican, and meet Pope Benedict XVI.
The source stated that Abbas will visit the Vatican and Italy, most likely, on the first days of December.

The Pope met last week with the Israeli President, Moshe Katsav, and received an invitation from him to visit the area.

The late Palestinian President, Yasser Arafat, visited the Vatican several times, and met with the late Pope, John Paul II, who made a historic visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories in 2000.
