The Palestinian Independent Commission For Citizen’s Rights (PICCR )expressed its rejection to any illegal arrests against the Palestinian residents, and demanded the Palestinian Authority to releases all of the political detainees, or the detainees who were arrested for their political opinions.

The PICCR called on the security devices to respect the rulings of the judicial system in order to maintain its independence and authority, and win the respect of the residents.

Also, the PICCR called on the P.A to close the political detention files and refrain from arresting residents for their political opinions or ideology, and respect the rights of the detainees by treating them in accordance to the Palestinian Law.

Researchers of the center reported that the P.A has arrested several residents for their political standards and opinions raising the number of political prisoners to 72, including five who already served their terms and were not released, which pushed several political detainees to carry hunger strike on Saturday December 24, 2005.

The PICCR reported that political arrests, especially when arresting residents for their political opinions and standards, are direct violations to the international laws and regulations, and violate the Palestinian valid laws.

The PICCR called on the P.A to end the political detention files, and release all of the political detainees, adding that such practices harm the political freedom in the Palestinian territories.
