35 year old Palestinian citizen Tariq Abu Harbid was killed Thursday when Israeli tanks near Eretz Crossing began shelling indiscriminately in the area.

Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia, Dr. Said Judeh, reported that 35 year Tariq Abu Harbid was dead upon arrival to the hospital.

Another man, 26 year old Mousa Abu Shaluf, was injured in the tank shelling. Doctors say his condition is critical.

Local sources report that the two men were civilians who happened to be in the area when Israeli forces began firing.  The shelling followed an attack on the Eretz Crossing Military Base by armed Palestinian resistance fighters, two of whom were killed, a few hours earlier.

A total of sixteen Palestinians have been killed in Gaza this week, 13 in aerial attacks by Israeli military forces, two in a thwarted attack by Palestinian fighters on Eretz border crossing terminal Thursday morning, and now 35 year old Tariq Abu Harbid, killed by tank shelling.  The Israeli military claims that all of those killed were members of Palestinian resistance groups, but no confirmation could be made by Palestinian groups of the identity of most of the deceased.

In an interview Wednesday, acting Israeli Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz said Israel would keep targeting Palestinian armed groups.  His announcement followed two days of aerial attacks in which 11 Palestinians had been killed.
