The Israeli army has decided to extend the closure imposed on the Palestinian territories until next Saturday. Army claims receiving several warnings of possible attacks against Israeli targets.
The Palestinian areas were completely sealed off last Saturday while Israel celebrated the Purim Jewish feast which ends on Wednesday at night.
Initially Israel was planning to lift the closure on Thursday morning but it decided to extend the full closure after its operation in the West Bank city of Jericho and arresting the Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Ahmad Sa’adat.
Following the arrest of Sa’adat and his comrades in addition to dozens of political prisoners in the Palestinian Jericho prison, several Palestinian factions vowed retaliation.
Three Palestinians were killed, and at least thirty-five were injured in the attack; dozens of prisoners were arrested by the Israeli army and transferred to Israeli detention centers.
The three killed in the attack are two Palestinian policemen identified as Mohammad Al Shaweesh, and Ibrahim Abu Al Einen, and one of the prisoners.
Sa’adat and his comrades were under American and British supervision in the Palestinian prison, but they left the prison compound before the army carried the operation which raised anger among the Palestinians.
