Wednesday morning, the Israeli air force assassinated Amjad Sa’id Ajamy, 20, from Atteel village, one of the senior leaders of the Al Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad, and Mohammad Majed Ateeq, 28, from Borqeen village.
This attack marks the first assassinations carried by the Israeli Air Force in the West Bank in two years.
The Palestine News Network reported that an Israeli military Apache fired on Wednesday morning three missiles at a house in the center of the Jenin refugee camp setting it on fire and demolishing most of its structure. The two fighters, Ajamy and Ateeq, were killed in the house.
Mahmoud Al Sa’ady, head of the Islamic Jihad in Jenin, reported that Husam Al Sa’ady, leader of the Al Quds Brigades in the West Bank survived the attack while Waleed Obeidy, one of the leaders of the brigades was mildly injured.
Al Sa’ady added that the group was attacked while resting after a long night of gun battles with Israeli forces invading the Jenin refugee camp.
"Ateeq and Al Ajamy arrived at the house in order to rest and sleep for some hours", Al Sa’ady stated, "but as soon as they entered the house, missiles were fired at it by an Israeli helicopter, Waleed was near the house, and was injured".
The Israeli air force fired two missiles at the house, and then fired a third missile completely destroying the it and damaging several nearby houses in the densely populated refugee camp. Several residents, including children and women, were injured.
The bodies of the two fighters were severely mutilated and burnt, eyewitnesses reported. The two fighters were only identified after the brigades announced their names.
The Al Quds Brigades vowed retaliation and said that every Israeli attack, and assassination "is the beginning of a new battle".
Husam Jaradat, leader of the Al Quds Brigades in Jenin slammed the attack and said that the brigades will retaliate and will not stop its military operations against the occupation.
Israeli security sources claimed that the two fighters are responsible for planning several bombings in Israel, and carrying several attacks against the soldiers in Jenin.
The sources also claimed that the assassinations were carried out in order to "foil a planned suicide bombing the two fighters were planning".
