Senior Palestinian security sources reported on Friday that a top
intelligence officer and four of his body guards were shot and killed
by unknown gunmen at the Sea Street, west of Gaza city.

The sources stated that brigadier Jad Tayeh, head of the International Relations Department at the Palestinian Intelligence Services was killed along with four of his bodyguards as they were driving near Al Shaty' refugee camp.

The gunmen, driving a Magnum Jeep, chased the vehicle of Tayeh and intensively fired at it killing him and his bodyguards before fleeing the scene.  

The attack took place close to the compound of the Palestinian Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyya from the Hamas party.    
 
There was no claim of responsibility for the fetal drive-by shooting attack.

The Palestinian General Intelligence services department is under the direct control of the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
