The United States State Department said on Friday that US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, is likely to visit the Middle East in the coming weeks to continue the efforts for a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Sean McCormack, US State Department spokesperson, did not reveal further details on Rice’s planned trip but stated that it will most likely include meetings with Israeli and Palestinian officials, in addition to possible meetings with regional key players.
Yet, no final decision on Rice’s travel has been made.
McCormack added that so far, it seems that Rice will meet Israeli and Palestinian leaders, in addition to meeting in the region “with people she normally meets during her visit”.
Rice visited the Middle East in February and held talks with the Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, and the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas.
She also visited Jordan and held talks with officials from what became known as the “Arab Quartet” – Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates”.
