Palestinian sources reported that the Hamas police forces in Gaza released on Friday Omar Al Ghul, 52, after arresting him for six weeks.Al Ghul was appointed as and advisor to Salam Fayyad the Palestinian Prime minister in 2007.
Salam Fayyad government was appointed by the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on June 2007, after the Hamas movement took total control in the Gaza strip following several months of bloody fighting with the Abbas’ Fatah party.
Al Ghul was released after intensified mediation efforts by the Islamic Jihad movement. He was arrested by the Hamas police from his home in Gaza in December 14th, 2007, he left Gaza when the movement took total control there, Al Ghul went back to attend his mother-in-law’s funeral.
