Palestinian fishermen off Gaza coast

The Israeli Navy fired several shelled at a number of Palestinian fishing boats near the Al Shudaniyya shore, north west of Gaza City. No injuries were reported in the shelling.

Palestinian fishermen, even when allowed to fish in Palestinian territorial waters, cannot sail more than 3 miles into the sea.

The Israeli navy repeatedly shelled fishing boats and detained several fishermen. In a number of cases, the Israeli navy interrogated the fishermen and asked them to be collaborators in exchange for allowing them to fish.

Earlier this month, a Palestinian fisherman was moderately wounded when the Israeli Navy opened fire at his boat off the Rafah shore, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

He was trying to fish less the one mile off the shore.
