Palestinian Prime Minister, Dr. Salaam Fayyad, stated during a press conference in Ramallah that the future Palestinian state must be settlements free and without the Annexation Wall.
He called on the International Community to oblige Israel to stop its ongoing violations of Palestinian rights and to stop ignoring the International Community.
Fayyad added that the time has come to move on and end this transitional period, and that Israel must fulfill its obligations and stop all of its settlement activities.
His statements are coherent with the Egyptian stance against the transitional period as Egypt’s President, Hosni Mubarak, stated during last November’s meeting with Israel’s President, Shimon Peres, that Egypt does not accept the establishment of a Palestinian State with provisional borders.
Mubarak demanded a clear timeframe for reaching a comprehensive and permanent peace deal.
President Mahmoud Abbas is slated to convene with Egypt’s Intelligence Chief, Omar Suleiman, at the Egyptian resort of Sharm Al Sheikh, to discuss the Egyptian efforts to resume the peace process.
He will likely hold a meeting with Mubarak to discuss the Egyptian-American efforts to resume the peace process on the basis of establishing a Palestinian State within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to a Friday report by Reuters, Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, called during his last week with Mubarak for a summit between him, Mubarak and Abbas.
Previous experiences showed that Israel uses summits to gain international support while nothing changes on the ground as the Israeli occupation forces continue their violations and assassinations against the Palestinians, while the Israeli government continues its illegal settlement construction and expansion in the occupied West Bank and in occupied East Jerusalem.
All Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, and in occupied East Jerusalem, constitute a war crime and violate the International Law and the Fourth Geneva conventions.
