The Palestinian National Authority has launched a venture, with private sector companies and civil society institutions, that intends to remove all settlement products from the Palestinian market by the end of 2010.The campaign aims to boycott all products related to Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, but does not go as far as to boycott all Israeli products, countering claims from the Israeli government that the boycott is based on racial and ethnic grounds.
In addition to the promotion of Palestinian products, the campaign aims to produce media and marketing content to educate both local and international consumers as to the necessity of the boycott.
Speaking at the launch event, Tuesday night, Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayyad, current prime minister of the Palestinian National Authority, stated that the fund is ‘a very important step for economic and political empowerment of our people, on the road to ending the occupation and establishing an independent state.’
