Secretary-general of the leftist Palestinian People Party (PPP), Bassam Salhi, met twice with Hamas Political Bureau head, Khalid Mashaal, during his visit to the Syrian capital Damascus. The talks focused on the current internal situation and the dangers of the ongoing state of internal divisions and conflicts.
Salhi said that the talks were straight forward and that they focused on the necessity to achieve reconciliation and the importance of the Egyptian role in unity talks.
The leftist leader added that the Egyptian document, despite of the reservations on some of its articles, is considered the fastest way to reconciliation.
He said that Hamas still insists that its suggested modifications must be implemented.
Salhi further stated that reconciliation and unity talks must resume and that all factions must be committed to forming a unity government that represents all factions and figures based on the results of the upcoming elections.
