Arab League Secretary-General, Amro Mousa, will be heading to the besieged Gaza Strip in the coming few days. Mousa phoned Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and informed him of his intention.
Abbas welcomed the decision and thanked Mousa for his stances supporting the Palestinian cause.
The Hamas movement in Gaza also welcomed the decision and described it as a positive step that should have been carried out a long time ago.
The visit could be considered as a first step in official Arab recognition of the Hamas-led, democratically elected government.
The Arab League also played an important role in unity efforts between the rival Fateh and Hamas movements.
Mousa will be entering the Gaza Strip via the Rafah Border Terminal, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The terminal was totally sealed by Egypt and was only opened after the deadly Israeli attack against the Freedom Flotilla.
