While visiting Turkey, Cameron blasts the Gaza raid while maintaining Israel’s right to its internal inquiry. The UK’s Prime Minister was in Turkey expressing the importance of the country as an ally and in an attempt to garner support for the newest round of sanctions against Iran.
In especially harsh words Cameron stated ‘The Israeli attack on the Gaza flotilla was completely unacceptable’ and added about the Gaza strip that, ‘Gaza cannot and must not be allowed to remain a prison camp.’
The solidarity the Prime Minister showed with humanitarian activists and the people of Gaza in his statements was tempered by an affirmation of support for Israel’s internal investigation. Turkey has called for an impartial, international investigation of the attack on the Gaza Flotilla.
