Dr. Mahmoud Zahhar, member of the political bureau of the Hamas movement, stated that Hamas does not want a civil war with Fatah movement, and that they desire national reconciliation based on the interests of the Palestinian people.Zahhar added that Hamas wants all political prisoners to be released and wants the residents to enjoy they guaranteed freedoms.
During a speech in Gaza on Monday evening, Zahhar stated that the agenda of the resistance is based on rejecting the occupation, protecting the holy sites and liberating the land.
The Hamas leader also stated that the Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas “is committing a historic mistake by conducting security coordination with Israel”.
Zahhar demanded the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) to support armed resistance instead of talking about nonviolent resistance.
“The Palestinians tried nonviolent resistance during the first Intifada”, Zahhar stated, “They also tried armed struggle and managed to achieve an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005”.
He also said that the Palestinians need unity, and need to act together in order to liberate the land and establish their sovereign state.
The Hamas political leader concluded by stating that Israel might wage a new war against the Palestinians especially amidst the failure of diplomatic talks in the region.
“All countries are now engaged in this political process, but what Israel is planning for could ignite the whole region”, Zahhar said. “Different countries are now distracted by this process, this gives Israel a chance to attack Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Gaza”.
