Ma’an News Agency are reporting that five Palestinians have been arrested, on Friday, in occupied East Jerusalem by Israeli police. The arrests follow a massive increase in security personel in Jerusalem due to today’s submission statehood submission at the United Nations by the Palestinian Authority.
Three of the five, all young men, were arrested in Beit Hanina for throwing stones at Israeli security forces, and that two were arrested in Jerusalem’s Old City, near to the al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israel has barred Palestinian men under the age of 50 from entering the al-Aqsa compound for Friday prayers, a practice it repeatedly uses claiming that it is to reduce security threats.
In practice, this often leads to demonstrations against these closures in East Jerusalem neighborhoods.
