Palestinian Minister of Detainees, Issa Qaraqe’, stated that Israeli soldiers of the Nachshon Brigade attacked Palestinian political prisoners in sections 13 and 14 of the Nafha prison in the Negev Desert while searching their beds, the Palestine News Network (PNN) reported.Qaraqe’ said that the soldiers were provoking the detainees in an attempt to incite them, adding that the detainees have threatened to resume their open-ended hunger strike as this attack is a direct violation to Israel’s vow to halt all violations against the detainees.

He added that, on Thursday, the prison administration in Nafa stopped family visits of detainees from Hebron and Bethlehem, claiming that a family tried to smuggle in a mobile phone.

The army then stormed sections 13 and 14 resulting in the detainees banging on the doors and returning their meals in protest; the Prison Administration declared the two sections closed until further notice totally isolating the detainees.

Approximately two weeks ago, Palestinian detainees held by Israel suspended their open-ended hunger strike after the Israeli Prison Administration agreed to most of their demands, including halting violations against them, allowing visits to Gaza Strip detainees, and ending solitary confinement policies.

The agreement also stated that detainees held under administrative detention will have their so-called “secret files”, which even defense attorneys do not see, examined by legal committees, and that, if Israel fails to provide “security information’ against them, their administrative detention will not be extended.
