Palestinian security sources in Jenin, in the northern part of the West Bank, reported that Lieutenant Hisham Ar-Rikh, deputy head of the Palestinian Preventative Security Forces, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in the city. The sources said that Ar-Rikh suffered multiple gunshots to the chest and legs, and was moved to Khalil Suleiman Governmental Hospital in the city where he died of his serious wounds.
Local sources reported that Ar-Rikh, in his fifties, was driving his car near a mountain area located between Al-Jabriyyat area and the Jenin refugee camp, when unknown gunmen ambushed him and fired at least 10 round of live ammunition; around seven bullets penetrated his body, including his chest.
The P.A said it will be investigating the fatal shooting; dozens of Palestinian policemen and members of the security forces are currently extensively deployed in the city.
Jenin Governor, Talal Dweikat, strongly denounced the attack and said that the security forces will search for and apprehend the assailants in order to prosecute them.
It is worth mentioning that Ar-Rikh also headed the Popular Services Committee in Jenin refugee camp.
