Palestinian medical sources reported that two Palestinians were killed, on Saturday evening, and one child was injured when the army fired a missile at a motorcycle driving in the center of Jabalia town, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. The sources said that Hisham as-Saidni, 43, was seriously injured in the blast and died of his wounds at ash-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Another resident, who accompanied as-Saidni was instantly killed in the blast as his head was severed, and his body was severely mutilated.
As-Saidni is a member of an armed group known as “Majlis Shura al-Mujahidin In The Environs of Beit al-Maqdis” (Mujahideen Shura council); an Islamist group operating in Gaza.
A 10-year-old child, who was walking nearby, was injured in the attack and was moved to a local hospital suffering moderate injuries.
An Israeli Military Spokesperson said that the army targeted the group as it is responsible for firing a shell into the Israeli town of Netivot in the Negev, in addition to several recent attacks targeting nearby Israeli areas.
The army also fired at least two missiles into a training center that belongs to fighters of the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
Last week, Israel assassinated a Palestinian, allegedly a member of a Salafist Islamist group, in Rafah in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. The army claimed that the fighter intended to carry out an attack against the army.
