The Palestinian community in Turkey and the Turkish-Palestinian Business Council, in cooperation with Doctors Around the World, sent Saturday 10 physicians and surgeons specialized in rare medical conditions, along with a shipment of medications urgently needed in the besieged Gaza Strip. The convoy was organized in cooperation with several nongovernmental organizations in the Gaza Strip; the physicians and surgeons are specialized in neurology, in addition to several other specialists, including Orthopedics, Dental surgeons and reconstructive surgeons.
They flew out of Ataturk Airport in Istanbul while hundreds of Turkish citizens, Palestinians, and representatives of the Business Union gathered at the airport to salute the physicians.
Representative of the Turkish-Palestinian Business Union, Ziad Dahleez, thanked the physicians and stated that “this is the least that we can do for our people in Gaza, facing ongoing aggression and illegal Israeli siege.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip reported a few days ago that more than 602 types of medications and medical supplies are missing in Gaza, including several types of essential medications such as heart medications and medications used by patients who suffer from anemia.
The ministry said that, by the end of 2012, the Gaza Strip ran out of 160 types of medications and 442 types of medical supplies, adding that most of the missing medications and supplies are urgently needed as they are used in Intensive Care units, anesthesia, urgent care, kidney failure treatment, and several other sorts of health condition.
Hundreds of patients died in hospitals in the Gaza Strip, since Israeli imposed its deadly siege on Gaza in mid-2006, due to the lack of medications, medical equipment and supplies as the Israeli siege left Gaza’s medical centers out of urgently needed supplies.
