Archbishop of Sebastia from the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of occupied Jerusalem, Theodosius Atallah Hanna: Yesterday, Tel Aviv witnessed a massive demonstration calling for an end to the war of extermination and a halt to the policies of starvation and abuse inflicted upon the Palestinian people.
Images of malnourished children were hoisted alongside banners demanding an end to famine and the savage war.
What struck me—painfully so—was that such scenes were not unfolding in any Arab capital, but in Tel Aviv itself, the heart of Zionism and the command center of a war waged against our people.
This compels us to ask: What have Arab nations done for Gaza? And what are they doing to stop the bloodshed and genocide?
It is disgraceful that the Arab stance remains apathetic, as if the matter does not concern them, apart from a few timid statements that neither nourish nor protect.
When the one who resides in the White House visited the region, he departed with billions in funding, money that should have been directed toward Arab renaissance, poverty alleviation, and solidarity with the afflicted people of Gaza.
Yet it appears Arab wealth is not for Arab causes. Instead, it is funneled into the service of the enemies of our nation, funding weapons and missiles that kill our people and decimate what remains of an already besieged and wounded Gaza Strip.
Gaza’s anguish has revealed the true faces of many, some of which had long been hidden. It is now clear that certain Arab actors are complicit in crimes against our people, their resources fueling this aggression, this war of annihilation, and starvation.
To those Arabs investing their wealth to appease the resident of the White House, I say this: Your money will not absolve you. Those who destroy in Palestine today have done so in Lebanon, Syria, and may soon replicate these atrocities elsewhere.
Your abandonment of Gaza is indefensible. You bear significant moral responsibility for the starvation our people endure.
Is it not shameful that global capitals witness waves of protest in solidarity with Palestine, while similar mobilization across Arab capitals remains virtually unseen—save for a few exceptions?
We never imagined that the Arab condition would descend to such depths of humiliation. We once rallied around the dream of a unified Arab nation with an eternal message, only to discover that this unity now manifests in betrayal, especially toward Palestine. The “message” has become one of fragility, retreat, and complicity.
How long will this continue? Arab populations, too, share responsibility. Where are they in the face of these crimes? Some writers boldly criticize Arab rulers, but let us be clear: the masses are not immune from accountability. If Palestine is the target today, others will follow tomorrow.
May God aid our people in Gaza, who suffer under staggering injustice and conspiracy, faced with a brutal occupation backed by the White House and other Western powers. As for the Arab status quo, it defies description.
I take pride in my Arab identity and always will. But I cannot take pride in this subset of Arab rulers—though not all—who form part of the conspiracy to eliminate the Palestinian cause. They mistakenly believe their silence will protect their thrones and preserve their comforts.
To them I say: Neither your thrones nor your comforts will endure. Your current silence and cowardice will make you the next target.
Today, Gaza and all of Palestine are under siege. You watch in silence, but in time you will reap the consequences of your complicity, weakness, and betrayal.
I pray that the Arab nation will rise from its slumber—before it is too late.
