Israeli airstrike in Gaza (archive image)

On Sunday, day 240 of Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip, Israeli troops continued their bombardment as hundreds of thousands of internally displaced Palestinians, forced out of eastern Rafah, walked across the southern Gaza Strip looking for a safe place to stop and set up tents where they wouldn’t be bombed.

In central Gaza, six Palestinians were killed, and others were injured Sunday, in the Israeli occupation’s bombing of Al-Zawaida and the Al-Sabra neighborhood in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli occupation aircraft bombed a gathering of civilians in Al-Zawaida, which led to the death of six Palestinians and the injury of others, who were transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.

A child was killed and others were injured in an artillery shelling on the Al-Sabra neighborhood, south of Gaza City.

On Sunday evening, two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli occupation bombing, east of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip.

Local sources reported that the Israeli occupation warplanes targeted the Abu Halawa area, east of the city of Rafah, killing two civilians and wounding others.

In Jabalia, fifty more bodies were recovered under the rubble after the Israeli military withdrew on Thursday after three weeks of attacking the camp. This makes a total of 120 bodies recovered since Thursday.

Ambulance and civil defense teams recovered the bodies of more than 120 Palestinians, for the third day in a row following the withdrawal of the Israeli occupation army from the Jabalia camp in the northern Gaza Strip.

A correspondent with the Wafa news agency reported that the crews were able to recover the bodies of 50 Palestinians on Sunday, after having recovered more than 70 civilians, including 20 children. The search continues for dozens of missing people among the rubble of homes, shelter centres, schools and hospitals, which were not spared from bombing and destruction, and even clinics. And the headquarters and centers of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA), which were also not spared from the machine of sabotage.

The ugliness of the atrocities and crimes committed by the occupation, and the extent of the massive destruction and vandalism it inflicted on citizens’ homes, service facilities and public facilities, were revealed after the retreat of military vehicles from the town of Jabalia and its camp, and the neighboring town of Beit Lahia to the north.

Over the course of 20 days, the Israeli occupation army wreaked sabotage and destruction in Jabalia camp, using a scorched earth policy, causing the death and injury of hundreds, the forced displacement of about 200,000 citizens, the destruction of entire residential squares, and the burning and bombing of public and service facilities. Eyewitnesses reported that the area looked as though it had suffered a devastating earthquake .

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, UNRWA, said that it had received horrific reports from Jabalia camp regarding the death and injury of children who were taking shelter in a school affiliated with it, which had been surrounded by Israeli tanks during the past weeks.

The UN organization also highlighted the occupation forces’ setting fire to the tents of the displaced people in its school. She added: “More than 170 UNRWA facilities were destroyed or damaged throughout the Gaza Strip. Our facilities are not a target.”

The Israeli occupation forces have continued their aggression, by land, sea and air, against the Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October, which resulted in the killing of 36,439 Palestinians, the majority of whom were women and children, and the injury of 82,627 others, in an ongoing and indefinite toll, as thousands of victims remain under the rubble.
